Trend Alert! Special - London Fashion Week Round-Up

They came, they saw, they quaffed champagne. This year's London Fashion Week was the best it'd been for a good few years - read on as we report from the fashion front-line...

EMERGING TRENDS

Emerging_trends_london_fashion_week

Oh, how we love a trend! Of the looks you'll be working come spring next year, London will be responsible for the following...

* Geek Chic - you may be a fabulous fashionista, but that doesn't mean that you don't engage in a touch of comic book browsing or Wikipedia reading every now and then. Sound like you? Then there's good news, as geekz ruled in London. Luella Bartley's collection was littered with cardigans and plaids, with the models wearing thick-rimmed glasses, whilst some of Peter Jensen's models could have been Daphne from Scooby-Doo's younger (and funkier) sister.

* Romance - love was most definitely in the air in London, floating down the runways in all shapes and sizes. Christopher Kane's collection was remarkably romantic, considering his previous ranges, with ruffles a-plenty and a soft colour palette of light greys, baby blues and clean whites. Giles Deacon meanwhile produced nipped-waist full-skirted prom dresses that Carrie Bradshaw would squeal in delight at (apart from the Bambi-with-blood-squirting-from-her-neck motif - interesting to say the least).

SPOTTED FRONT ROW

Front_row_london_fashion_week_2

* Lily Allen at Luella

* Tara Palmer-Tomkinson at Ben de Lisi

* Erin O'Connor, Trudi Styler, Daisy Lowe and Prince (Prince!) at Matthew Williamson

FASH PACK'S FAVOURITES AND GOSSIP

Peachesnaomi_and_prince

* Peaches Geldof added "model" to her impressive CV (which already boasted "writer", "TV presenter" and "professional party girl" in the Work Experience section) by taking to the catwalk for PPQ.

* Naomi Campbell did her bit for charidee with her "Fashion for Relief" show which, amongst others, featured Lily Cole, Leah Wood and Fergie (the former royal, not of Black Eyed Peas fame).

* But the absolute highlight had to be Matthew Williamson's jubilant return to the London catwalk with a show that was elegant and unmistakably Williamson - oh, and Prince leapt on stage halfway through to perform his hit U Got The Look. How wonderful.

Look out for our Milan Fashion Week Round-Up next week.

Star Style Latest - Mama Richie Out For Lunch

We're well aware that harking back to the style of yesteryear is one of this season's fashion success Nicole_richie stories but, forgive us - when the trend-dictating powers that be declared that we were to go retro with our look this season we thought they were talking more about the glamorous 1920s and 1940s, rather than circa summer last year. We only say this as this picture of Nicole Richie out for lunch in LA yesterday surfaced this morning - and doesn't she look she's gone back to her fashion roots? There's the Alexander McQueen skull scarf that she immortalised by wearing in every colour available (thus causing a world-wide drought of said scarf). There's the oversized designer bag and sunglasses that were once trademark Richie. Skinny jeans and simple tee? Check and check. It wasn't all a carbon copy of her Rachel Zoe days though. The chic leather jacket is distinctly this season, and then there's her other accessory of course - the ever-growing baby bump. She's going to be one hot mama.

Today's Daily Shop - KG Patent Gem Detail Court Shoe

Ooh, we likey - look how shiny. And at the big old gem on the front. And at the chunky block heel! We can just see ourselves now clip clopping down the street with these lovely heels from Kurt Geiger's new diffusion range, KG, over a pair of black tights. Like these? Take a look at their other new range, Solea, too. Shoe heaven.

Star Style Latest - Hot Hollywood

No doubt you've heard of America's Us Weekly magazine - that's the one that seems to break all the very hottest and juiciest celebrity stories seemingly Us_weekly_hot_hollywood_party_sarahbarely after they've happened. They can make or break a budding starlet's career, and so it was surprising to find that their annual "Hot Hollywood" party was a relatively quiet affair last night. The only star of note in attendance was the ever-lovely Sarah Michelle Gellar. She certainly added some A-List glitz to proceedings though, in an adorable embellished mini dress from the Chloé autumn/winter '07 collection. As we've told you a million time before, embellishment is big news this season (if you didn't know, shame on you), and we reckon SMG wears it well with a chunky black bangle and a simple pair of court shoes - with a dress that dazzling, there's not much need for anything else.

Today's Daily Shop - Cath Kidston Assorted Bath Melts

Ah, we love a bit of Cath Kidston - the super-cute packaging is almost as delicious as the products themselves - so we were over-the-moon when the new range arrived today. Our pick of the collection is these yummy bath melts - just pop one into a bath full of steamy hot water, jump in and relax. Perfect for those cold winter nights that are looming...

Star Style Latest - VB's Glam In-Flight Style

Vb_flies_into_japanIt was a mere two weeks ago that we commented on Mrs. Beckham's aeroplane style and it seems that, whilst she has taken on board (ho, ho) what we said, and yet still can't quite depart (stop us, please) from her signature glam style. Yesterday saw her jetting in to Japan's Narita International Airport ahead of her cosmetics launch in the country (let's not forget, the Beckham's are huge in the Asia). Victoria eschewed the tight red dress she opted for last time in favour of a much more flight-friendly pair of jeans (no doubt from her dVb range, which arrives at ASOS.com in October). She couldn't resist dressing them up a bit though with a great military style jacket, shiny belt and one of her many Hermès bags. We love the fact she tried to play it low-key in huge sunglasses and a baker boy hat too - as if people weren't going to recognise her...

Daily Shop - Tuesday's Choice

Today's Daily Shop - Foiled Jewelled Neck Trim Dress

Talk about ticking all the trend boxes - this great dress hits two of this season's biggest looks square on the head. The foil fabric fits neatly into fashion's slick wet look obsession, whilst we all know that heavy embellishment is a huge trend at the moment, and the neckline on this great piece certainly has that covered. Style made simple.

Star Style Latest - Dita for PETA

Dita_for_peta

We know what you're thinking - she's absolutely gorgeous, isn't she? Dita Von Teese left us all green with envy yesterday with her 1950s-perfect look, complete with the teeny-tiniest waist ever (we hear that once corseted-up, her waist measures a miniscule 16 inches - ouch). We love that she's combined her signature retro-style with this one of this season's key trends - the waist-cinching belt - proving that you don't need to be a slave to fashion to work the looks du jour. Dita was dressed to impress for the photo call to launch her new campaign in conjunction with PETA, the animal rights organisation. In the poster ad for the campaign Dita appears clad in super-sexy stockings and a corset in order to bring attention to the issue of...erm, animal birth control. Go figure.

Today's Daily Shop - Ted Baker Check Wool Belted Coat

Get soaked to the bone on your way to work this morning? Yep, us too. Time to invest in a super-warm winter coat then. We absolutely love this one from Ted Baker that's just gone live on the site- the black and white check is timeless, so it should last you for a good few years. Battling the elements has never been so stylish.

Star Style Latest - All This Weekend's Outfits

More_sex_and_the_city_the_movie_1

To be honest, not an awful lot happened in Celeb-ville this weekend. Kelly-O went out partying in London (again). Sienna hung out some more with Rhys Ifans (yep, again). Same old, really. So, as they're possibly the most exciting pictures we've seen all year, we decided this morning we'd simply let you ogle the latest Sex and the City: The Movie shots. Long for Carrie's sequinned mini dress. Rejoice in the return of her signature corsage (and how - it's huge).  Adore Charlotte's polka dot number (and, ahem, is that a baby bump?). And take heart in the picture of the four girls back together again. Enjoy...

We Say, You Say - Elen Rives

Under the fashion microscope this week - Elen Rives on her way to the Amanda Wakeley show at London Fashion Week

Elen_rives

We Say

Not a bad effort from Mrs. Frank Lampard-to-be - and, can we just say, we're most impressed that she managed to bag herself a fashion week ticket. The outfit qualifies her as a front-rower though, proving she knows a thing or two about fashion - the belt and oversize clutch bag (which we adore) are very much of-the-season. Her shoes are great too, adding some shine and much needed height to the miniscule madam's look. We're not sure about the different shades of purple though - doesn't quite work for us. Still, it's a darn sight better than what we imagine some other WAGs would wear for such an event. Well done, lady.

You Say

Kirsty Issatt, 18, Administrator from York

I know what you’re all thinking; she makes it look sooo easy!  I almost chocked on my skinny latte when I saw this picture - how beautiful and effortlessly glam does Elen look?  The colours are fantastic and really compliment each other; from the simple skinny jeans to the comfy top with waist belt (so very this season) she looks every inch the well-polished and glamorous fashionista. Speaking of inches, I'm LOVING the platform shoes. Just how does she do it? I'm sure that footballer's pay cheque probably helps...

Don't forget - if you want to write for the ASOS.com Blog We Say, You Say feature, just email us on blog@asos.com - include your name, age, occupation and location and we'll email you back.

Today's Daily Shop - Deco Beaded Dress

This gorgeous dress is part of the new "ASOS Premium" range, a collection of clothes and accessories with a touch of something special - be it soft leather belt or, in the case of this dress, delicate and intricate detailing. Also available in black, we think it fits right into the whole "retro glam" trend that Keira is wearing so well at the moment.

Star Style Latest - Fashion for Relief

Fashion_for_relief_catwalk_2

Who says fashion is a fickle industry? Last night saw supermodel Naomi Campbell play host to Fashion for Relief, a one-off catwalk show to mark the end of London Fashion Week and raise funds to help those affected by the floods that hit England in July this year. And whilst regular charity events might involve egg and spoon races or staying silent for 24 hours, this was a fashion event, sweetie. Hitting the catwalk for the cause was a mixture of models and celebrities - Lily Cole led by example in a great lace insert dress, whilst the show's organiser strutted her stuff in a full-skirted black dress. Amongstthe starlets to walk the walk were Jamelia, fresh from hosting the MOBO Awards the night before and looking hot, hot, hot in a body-con red mini dress, and rock children Lizzie Jagger and Leah Wood. Oh, and we've thrown in a picture of Christian Slater, one of the men folk to model, because - well, simply because he's a hottie. The front row was just as mush a who's-who list - Claudia Schiffer watched over proceedings, as did Jemima Kahn and Elle MacPherson who clutched one another throughout the show and appeared to have a whale of a time. Meanwhile, Kate Moss was in attendance wearing a great pair of high-waisted trousers and pussybow blouse, and pledged £25,000 to the cause. That's the spirit, Mossy!

Trend Alert! Special - New York Fashion Week Round-Up

Ok, ok, we know our New York round-up is a little late in coming, but hey - it's a tiring business this Fashion Week malarkey. Still, better late than never as they say - read on to find out who sat front row at who, all the hot gossip and what those in the know will be wearing next spring...

EMERGING TRENDS

Emerging_trends_new_york_fashion__3

Of all the 78 shows that took place, some very wearable key trends emerged - notepads at the ready, ladies...

* Simplicity - fuss-free fashion was the big story in New York, with clean lines, tailored silhouettes and simple layering gracing many a catwalk. Calvin Klein, a label renowned for its simplicity, had a distinct air of androgyny with fitted jackets over skinny trousers and basic t-shirt dresses, whilst Preen took to the New York stage for the first time with a utilitarian theme - cue oversized and tucked in roll-sleeve shirts, roomy jumpsuits and belted shirt dresses.

* Colour - for the third season in a row, colour was key on the catwalks, and not just the usual pastels and lighter hues generally associated with spring/summer - we're talking an explosion of Starburst brights. Vera Wang's collection featured satin aqua, purple and strawberry red, whilst Zac Posen sent his girls out wearing frocks in shocking shades of turquoise, orange, yellow and deep blue.

* Land and Sea - whether you're heading out to the desert or taking to the high seas, the design world has you covered. Derek Lam showed a safari-inspired collection with animal print dresses and skirts, plus coats and dresses in shades of khaki. Meanwhile, Tommy Hilfiger went all nautical with stripes and his trademark colours of red, white and blue.

SPOTTED FRONT ROW

Front_row_new_york_fashion_week

* Demi Moore and Lucy Liu at Zac Posen

* Emmy Rossum, Diane Kruger, Rosario Dawson and Michelle Rodriguez at Tommy Hilfiger

* Demi Moore, Mischa Barton, Maggie Gyllenhaal and Hilary Swank at Miss Sixty

* And the one they all wanted to see - Victoria Beckham, Mischa Barton, Carmen Electra, Elisha Cuthbert, Helena Christensen and Sheryl Crow at Marc Jacobs

FASH PACK'S FAVOURITES AND GOSSIP

Marc_gwen_new_york_fashion_week

* The crowd at the Marc Jacobs show was left less than amused after having to wait for two hours after the scheduled start time to see the first model strut her stuff. Word has it Marc was supping in the hotel bar, although he strongly denies this...

*Gwen Stefani's L.A.M.B show was a resounding success, with the songstress taking her bow with son Kingston on her arm - the collection featured lots of trademark Stefani checks, stripes and high-waists.

Look out for our London Fashion Week Round-Up next week.

Today's Daily Shop - Sista Shei Silk Teddy

Ooh la la - how very sexy is this silk number from Sista Shei? The teddy, as it's called, is an all-in-one nightwear piece that's super-cute and super-sexy all at once. It reminds us of that scene in Grease where they're all singing, giggling and jumping around Frenchie's bedroom - although it would be just as useful in not-so-innocent situations...

Star Style Latest - SATC is Back!

HURRAH! YES! SCREAM!

Excuse us, but these are the first pictures that confirm the rumours - Sex and the City - The Movie will be a reality. Shooting for the big screen version of every fashionista's favourite TV show began yesterday on the Upper East Side of New York City and, as these shots prove, the show's stylist Patricia Field is going to make sure that the clothes are just as fabulous as ever - perhaps even more so. This great green strapless dress sported by Sarah Jessica Parker is oh-so-Carrie, but also oh-so-on-trend - we're loving the studded belt. And the shoes. And the Eiffel Tower bag! Oh! It's all too much. But the icing on the cake for us was to see Carrie and Big wrapped up in each others arms - it makes us all warm inside. Will all work out for the long-suffering lovebirds? We hear the film's set for release in the US on 30th May next year, with the UK release to follow shortly afterwards so you'll need to wait to find out.  Time to dig out the box set and start reminiscing, we think...

Face of Fashion - Chloë Sevigny

We couldn't help but wonder...just who is it that Chloë Sevigny reminded us of? And then, all at once, it hit us - this girl is like a real-life Carrie Bradshaw. Plucked from the uber-cool streets of New York's East Village by a fashion editor, she quickly achieved iconic fashionista status thanks to her unique and inimitable wardrobe. She wears the quirkiest outfits that just work, even though every fashion fibre in our body is telling us that it really shouldn't - the glasses, face print tee and ankle boots combo below for example, or the boater hat with the gorgeous sun dress. And then she just wears some fabulous outfits. Her red carpet successes lie in two key looks - bright block colour dresses and monochrome. When it comes to beauty, she sticks to a tried-and-tested regime with glossy locks, painted lips and a slick of eyeliner forming her trademark look. Carrie would be proud.

Now that the colder weather is starting to set in (you can really feel it in the air today, can't you?) it's time to start thinking about practical fashion - items that will look good without leaving you so cold you knees start knocking together. With that in mind, this cute-as-a-button pom pom hat is a must-have - we think it's very Olsen twins...

Star Style Latest - Finest Frocks at the V&A

Va_sophie_agyness_erin_and_jemima

The London Fashion Week events calendar continues, with last night seeing the launch gala for the V&A's The Golden Age of Couture exhibition, which officially opens this Saturday and runs until 6th January 2008. The usual fash pack, showing no signs of Fashion Week Fatigue as of yet and still wearing heels, were out in their finest frocks for the occasion. Black was the order of the day for trio of models Sophie Dahl, Agyness Deyn and Erin O'Connor, who all opted for floor length dresses in the classic colour, whilst Hugh Grant's ex Jemima Kahn channeled Beyonce in an all-over sequin number cinched with an oh-so-now wide metallic belt. Elsewhere on the pink carpet there was a definite air of retro glam - Kate Moss and Claudia Schiffer both evoked more than a hint of the 1940s glamour we saw on the autumn/winter catwalks of Valentino and Gucci in full-length gowns with tumbling hair and red lips, whilst 21-year old Lily Cole wore a great short '20s flapper dress (learn how to recreate their retro beauty looks here). It was left to Laura Bailey to inject a little colour into proceedings - she opted for a knee-length salmon pink dress with black tights and contrasting red shoes. The social whirlwind continues...

ASOS Wears...

This Week's Fashionista - Jenny Stafford, Buyer's Admin Assistant, Menswear

As part of the ultra-hardworking menswear department, ASOS.com's resident netball coach and one of a gaggle of northerners in the company, Jenny's style is fashion-forward yet has a definite air of functionality. This outfit is a perfect example of this. The dress (from a vintage fair, if you're wondering) is a great shade of grey, the neutral colour this season, and which she can wear such a light shade of thanks to her dark colouring. She cinches the waist and adds a flattering dash of colour with a bright pink belt, ticking the "block colour" trend box with one fell swoop. With the weather on the turn, Jen opts for practical matching boots and a bag in a slightly darker grey to add depth to the outfit, and finishes the look with a touch of subtle bling in the form of a silver watch and ring. Understated yet incredibly effective.

Star Style Latest - Hack of a Party

Gal pals Alexa Chung and Kelly Osbourne hit the party scene hard last night, as they were seen tumbling out of the St. Martin's Lane Hotel in London clutching each other and giggling like school girls. The former T4 presenter and new West End star were out for a party thrown by Jefferson Hack, editor of Dazed and Confused and Kate Moss' former other half. Alexa worked the high-waisted skirt 'n' tee look that she's been loving of late, and finished the look with a great pair of cross front heels. Kelly meanwhile dazzled in a purple bandeau dress and contrasting red lips. Also at the party was Kimberly Stewart, in town shooting her new TV show (Kim, Kelly-O, they're all flocking to the capital aren't they?). Rod's daughter looked great in a leopard print dress and a leather biker jacket - an item we're tipping to be key this season - finished with a pair of patent shoe boots. Loving your looks, ladies.

What's Hot, What's Not - Your Weekly Guide to Cool

Hot_17_september

1 - London Fashion Week

It's here! And it's set to be bigger and better than ever! With Luella opening a new store, Camilla Morton launching her follow-up to How To Walk In High Heels, Christopher Kane attending the opening of Amy Sacco's new London club, Bungalow, Agyness Deyn due to DJ at the hippest night in town - the Mac/Boombox party in Hoxton - and Matthew Williamson returning to the Big Smoke, you could be forgiven for forgetting that it's actually all about the new Spring/Summer '08 collections. Don't worry though - we'll be keeping an eye on proceedings for you and reporting back.

2 - Fashion's New Face

Having been scouted in the humble surroundings of Primark in Hammersmith just one year ago, Jourdan Dunn is taking the fashion world by storm. The 17-year old had never even left the country before she signed to Storm modelling agency, but last week she made waves in New York as she walked for Marc Jacobs, Ralph Lauren and Gwen Stefani's LAMB range, to name but a few. And with a splattering of London shows booked, you're sure to see a lot more of her...

3 - The Return of Strictly

Have you seen the ads on TV for the new series of Strictly Come Dancing?? We get palpitations every time we see it, we love it so - coupled with The X Factor it makes for perfect Saturday night pre-going out entertainment. And this year's line up is a corker. Penny Lancaster Sharon and Deano from Eastenders. Tricky Dicky from Coronation Street. And, can we just say, that whoever paired Kelly Brook with the snake-hipped Brendan Cole is a tabloid-frenzy-whipping genius.

Not_17_september

1 - Celeb Fall Outs

Word reaches us from LA that, despite originally becoming NBFs, all is not well between Victoria Beckham and Jennifer Lopez. When Posh first landed Stateside, the woman formerly known as J-Lo welcomed her with open arms, with Posh returning the favour by helping Jen pick a frock for an awards party. But then things started to go wrong - first Jen failed to turn up to the Beckhams' "Welcome to America" party, hosted by the Cruises and the Smiths, which prompted Vic to pass on Jennifer's New York Fashion Week show, stating that she was "too tied up in LA" - despite the fact that she was repeatedly snapped front row at other shows. Whoops...

2 - Waiting Around

The fash pack are up in arms after their darling du jour, Marc Jacobs, kept the crowd waiting for two hours before the start of his New York Fashion Week show. Such a fuss has been kicked up that the designer is threatening not to show in the city next year. Seriously guys, this is fashion - nothing worth waiting for runs on time...

3 - Sienna and Rhys

Sienna Miller and Rhys Ifans, we just have one thing to say - are you or bloomin' aren't you!?

We can already picture ourselves wearing this great knitted Ted Baker top once the cold winter weather sets in - we'll style it nipped at the waist with a belt as in the picture below, slipping off the shoulder with a chunky scarf to keep us warm, black tights and a pair of shoe boots. Ah, we're longing it to get cold already...

Star Style Latest - All This Weekend's Outfits

Throw on your best threads and get sipping the bubbly, sweetie, for London Fashion Week has arrived! The buzz around this season's event has reached fever-pitched, with London finally stepping up its game to match the legendary Fashion Weeks of New York, Paris and Milan, and promising a fun-filled six days of full-on fashion frivolity - highlights of which will include the return of Matthew Williamson, who has showed in New York since 2002 and is celebrating his label's 10th anniversary.

Things kicked off in style last night, with the Moet Mirage Evening - an evening picnic held in Holland Park, sponsored by one of Fashion Week's oldest and dearest friends. Model-of-the-moment Agyness Deyn was in attendance, wearing a black and white striped off-the-shoulder dress and looking healthy and relaxed - no doubt she'll look a little more worse-for-wear once the chaotic week wraps up. Also on hand to add a little glamour to the proceedings - and no doubt remind Aggy that she was modelling before the newcomer was even a twinkle in her father's eye - was Naomi Campbell, who worked this season's trend for feathers with a great sequinned mini-dress with plumes on the sleeves.

Moet_mirage_evening_agyness_and_nao

It was Peaches Geldof though that really got things swinging. The party girl also attended the Moet event, wearing a cream 0ff-shoulder top and black high-waisted skirt to ride the merry-go-round and no doubt have a celebratory drink of three, seeing as though earlier that morning she took to the catwalk (and at 9.30am no less) to model a couple of outfits for British buzz label PPQ. We're definitely fans of the pieces she modelled (doesn't she do it well?), and we're particularly glad to see that this season's love of full, swish-a-rific skirts will continue into spring/summer '08.

Star Style Latest - Diesel Store Launch

Kimberly_stewart_at_the_diesel_launLast night saw one of our favourite brands, Diesel, launch their latest perfume and re-open their King's Road store in London after a fire caused damage earlier this year, as we told you on Monday. A splattering of stars turned out to enjoy the free bubbly, including model Jade Parfitt and the lovely Kimberly Stewart, pictured here. The 28-year old beauty, recently named FHM's Most Eligible Bachelorette, looked super polished in a great and very revealing sequinned top, black leggings and a pair of peep toe ankle boots. We hear that Kim's latest TV venture, Living with Kimberly Stewart on LivingTV, hasn't been going so well, with three contestants walking off the show due to the starlet's obsessive cleaning. We don't know about you, but we'd happily do a spot of cleaning if we lived with her - if it meant we got to raid her wardrobe that is...

We Say, You Say - Jessica Alba

Under the fashion micrsoscope this week - Jessica Alba taking a break from filming her new movie in Canada

Jessica_alba

We Say

It's no wonder Jessica Alba is consistently voted the sexiest woman in the world when she's able to look this good slumped on a bollard. She's a master at taking the most basic items - in this case a vest top, grey cardigan and faded jeans - and making them look a million dollars. She achieves this with long glossy locks, ultra-cool aviators, and great oversize bag and the whitest of Hollywood smiles. And a girl that loves her Converse? She's won our vote...

You Say

Daria Daria Wilcocks, 19, Gap Year Student from Leeds

Well I'm sorry to disappoint you ladies but Jessica's managed to look perfect (as always) in a simple jeans and cardi combo. Cue bright red hold-all bag for a sexy impact and now we see why no man can resist her! At the same time she's bang up to date on the style front looking altogether peachy in flared jeans, slouchy 'borrowed-from-the-boyfriend' cardigan and retro style sunglasses to pull together the look. Me? Jealous?...

Ooh, seriously cute bag alert! It comes in grey too, but we're particular fond of the black and teal version - we love the vintage-look aspect, with the suede panels and carry-handles. Plus, it's big enough to fit all those essential handbag items - you know, your iPod, phone, keys, mints, diary, nail file, perfume, mirror, chocolate, kitchen sink...

Star Style Latest - VB at LAX

Vb_arrives_at_lax What’s your usual outfit of choice for long haul flights? If you’re anything like us, comfort is key – something along the lines of a nice pair of fleecy trousers, a soft cotton t-shirt and a cosy cashmere jumper would suit us just fine. Not if you’re Victoria Beckham. The soccer-wife touched down in LAX airport yesterday looking as glamorous as we’ve come to expect, wearing a super-tight red mini dress with matching tan heels and oversized bag – and a rather unnecessary pair of huge sunglasses. God love her, she’ll develop a serious case of DVT if she keeps wearing clothes as tight as these on flights.

Face of Fashion - Zooey Deschanel

We can't even begin to tell you how difficult it was to put together today's Face of Fashion picture gallery of the lovely Zooey Deschanel, primarily because we absolutely adore every single outfit she's ever worn. Period. You'll probably recognise the face, rather than the name, from quirky roles in films such as Almost Famous, The Good Girl and Failure to Launch. She's one of those rare style savvy wonders that knows what suits her, develops a signature look based on this and sticks to it no matter what the trends dictate; and with her glossy full fringe, big blue doe-eyes and petite frame, she has the perfect canvas for building her distinct look. That look is distinctly feminine - she's most definitely a dresses girl, with a love of anything with bows, ruffles and frills or lace. One step ahead of the fashion game, she's been wearing this season's embellishment, block colours and oversized clutch bags for months now, long before they hit the mainstream. Definitely unique, which is just why we love her.

Today's Daily Shop - Platform Peep Toe Shoes

Eek! We can barely contain our excitement that these oh-so-fabulous shoes have finally landed on site (seriously, we've been eagerly eyeing them in the office for months now). We've spied similar pairs on the likes of Dita Von Teese and Mrs. Beckham of late, so we're thrilled we can get our hands on a pair. The black patent pair will add some essential gloss to your winter wardrobe, whilst the red pair is perfect for achieving the block colour trend. Ooh, we'll take them both.

Star Style Latest - Keira Hits Toronto

It's a tough life when you're a young, beautiful actress whose new film is hotly-tipped for a string of industry awards, including the ultimate Academy Award - the publicity trail is never-ending, with jam-packed schedule of red carpet event after red carpet event, demanding you wear only the finest of frocks. Such is life for Keira Knightley at the moment who, since stepping off her speedboat at the Venice Film Festival for the world premiere of Atonement, has barely had a moment to herself so hard has she been promoting the Oscar-tipped film. The last two days have seen her in Toronto for the Canadian city's annual film festival, and last night she graced the red carpet for the premier of another film, Silk. Showing that her turn in Atonement, set in the 1940s, has affected her dress sense, she wore a gorgeous vintage lace dress with delicate beading, complete with very '40s inspired hair and make-up. It was a stark contrast to the outfit she wore the night before, which tapped in to this seasons glossy goth trend - a full-skirted two-tone dress with patent black panel, killer black heels and plenty of smudged kohl. Tres nu-grave - we like.

ASOS Wears...

This Week's Fashionista - Laura Southern, Buyer's Assistant (Accessories)

Laura_southern_2

Having worked at ASOS.com for a year and a half, Laura is always one step ahead of the fashion crowd, and she's already working next season's trends as this outfit demonstrates. The gamine-meets-Victoriana look is set to be big news, and she pulls it off to perfection in a simple black shift dress worn over a pussy bow blouse - such a key item, and so very versatile. The sequinned headband in her hair (you can't quite see it in the picture, but trust us, it's there) adds a circus girl element to the look, but she veers away from trend overkill by adding her own modern touch with a chunky gold bracelet and ring. The nature of her job finds her running here, there and everywhere (you'll hear her distinct giggle emanating from the farthest flung corners of the ASOS.com office) and working long hours, so she chooses practical flats for her feet but keeps them patent, in keeping with next season's love of all things shiny. All in all a true fashionista - we'll be investing in our very own pussy bow blouse just as soon as we finish this post...

Daily Shop - Tuesday's Choice

Today's Daily Shop - Pop's Pop Up Blush

Perfect for re-creating that oh-so-natural flushed and feminine look we saw on the catwalks of Chanel and DKNY and that Mischa wears so well, this cheek stain from flirty beauty brand Pop is a make-up bag must-have. We recommend applying the Baby Flush shade to the apples of your cheeks for instant adorability - well, if it's good enough for Kylie...

Star Style Latest - Front Row at Marc Jacobs

It's one of the hottest tickets in town, so it was no surprise to see a splattering of A-Listers perched on the front row at the Marc Jacobs Spring/Summer '08 show in New York yesterday. Amongst those to score front row status was our very own Victoria Beckham, looking as tanned and polished as ever. Someone's evidently told Posh that purple, grey, body-con and block colour are set to be massive key trends this season, as this outfit successfully combines them all. Also in attendance was Mischa Barton wearing...well, we're not entirely sure what it is she's wearing. We love her headband and gold wedges though. And the show itself? As fabulous as we've come to expect - we bet these lucky ladies have got their advance orders in already...

What's Hot, What's Not - Your Weekly Guide to Cool

Hot_10_september

1 - Shoes, Glorious Shoes

Yesterday's Sunday Times Style magazine declared this to be a season of accessories, with none more important than the ever-glorious shoe - do you need any more excuse to invest in a new pair or three? From patent to studded to shoe boots and more, there are an abundance of styles to choose from. And those that do still need convincing of the Reign of the Shoe should hot-foot it to New York, where we hear that Saks have moved their shoe department from the 4th to the 8th floor, in doing so increasing their shoe-pacitiy to 8,500 square feet and earning the department its own zip code. Shoe heaven.

2 - Diesel

Diesel has long been a favourite brand of ours - with hot Italian design and some of the very finest jeans around, what's not to love? And they're definitely back at the top of our style radar, with a new fragrance launching this week (you've probably seen the ads on TV - hot, hot man!) and a store relaunch on the King's Road in London to boot.

3 - Autumn

There's a distinct nip in the air (without it being too cold), the trees are beginning to change colour and the first leaf fell on us this weekend, which makes it official - autumn is here! And that means one thing and one thing alone - we can finally start wearing all those new season pieces we've been investing in for the past few weeks (call us fashion obsessives, but we needed something to distract us from the terribly depressing weather...). Time to switch style gears, ladies.

1 - Arrivederci, Valentino

Having just two months ago celebrated 45 years in the fashion industry, we were saddened to hear that Valentino has announced that he will be standing down as the label's designer after two more collections. The Italian founded the fashion house in 1962 and earned himself the title "Master of the Dress" with his sophisticated designs, as well as celebrity friends in the form of  Liz Hurley and Elle MacPherson to name but a few. "It's the perfect moment to say farewell to the fashion world," he said in a statement.

2 - Sour Grapes

Kanye West is evidently not a Britney Spears fan. Speaking at last night's MTV Video Music Awards about Britney being scheduled to kick-off the proceedings, Kanye fumed "I can't believe she would perform. She hasn't had a hit record in years! Maybe my money's not right". Insiders tell us that the rap superstar was more than a little offended that he wasn't asked to open the show. Can't quite imagine him in a glittery bikini, can you?

3 - This Week's OK! Cover Story

Big Brother contestants Chanelle and Ziggy "re-enact" the extravaganza that was Victoria and David Beckham's wedding - just without the celebrity friends, the same level of extravagance...or an actual wedding ceremony taking place. We sense their 15 minutes may be just about up...

Star Style Latest - All This Weekend's Outfits

Roll up, roll up! With Britney Spears' hotly-anticipated comeback opening the show, an exclusive booth hosted by Timberland and Justin Timberlake, and guests including 50 Cent, Kanye West and Beyonce in attendance, this year's MTV Video Music Awards were always going to be an explosive affair. And of course, the outfits lived up to expectation as well - our pick of the best are as follows...

Mtv_vmas_paris_and_nelly It was new hairstyles all round as Paris Hilton took to the red carpet with her new crop looking majorly-volumised, and Nelly Furtado took to the stage showcasing newly-blonde locks. Paris looked more than a little Victoria Beckham in her skin-tight leopard print dress with her black bra peeking over the top, complete with blinging earrings and cuff. Nelly meanwhile went for a more demure look, in a wide-legged (and therefore oh-so-on-trend) black catsuit and sequinned beanie, accessorised with a couple of chunky bangles.

Elsewhere on the red carpet, sultry-songstress RihannaMtv_vmas_rihanna_and_ashlee  got temperatures rising in a sizzling hot pink floor-length gown complete with fishtail bottom and black fingernails. The Barbadian lovely went on to pick up two awards during the ceremony - top gong Video of the Year and also Monster Single of the Year, both for her chart-topping track Umbrella. Ashlee Simpson, in attendance with boyfriend Pete Wentz of indie band Fall Out Boy, continued to look increasingly like an Olsen twin in a great gothic grey mini dress and black patent peep toes, finished with lashings of smudged kohl and blonde waves. We told you they didn't disappoint...

We Say, You Say - Nicole Richie

Under the fashion microscope this week - Nicole Richie at the Fashion Rocks Concert in New York

Nicole_richie

We Say

Nicole Richie is clearly not about to let her pregnancy get in the way of looking absolutely stunning - she's been successful so far in dressing to complement her growing bump, and this outfit is no exception. The maxi dress is a look Gwen Stefani worked to stunning effect during her pregnancy last year, and Nicole has clearly taken a leaf from her book. The pose is all-Nicole however - hand on hip, jutting shoulder and sultry smirk. The pattern is a clever choice, taking the focus off her belly, and the keyhole draws the attention to her chest. Be in no doubt - Nicole is a style icon first and a mum-to-be second. Love it.

You Say

Paul Paul Pixton, 24, Advertising Agency PA from London

One word - wow! Even with her recent troubles, La Ritchie still knows how to scrub up amazingly for those red carpet events and this one is no exception. I'm loving the long flowing look of her frock and the way she has cleverly accentuated her cleavage shows that even the skinniest of minnies can cheat a little and give themselves a shapely figure with the right dress shape and clever colouring. Those chunky ghetto-gold bracelets are so on trend right now and complement the black & white print and her glossy blonde locks to perfection.

Don't forget - if you want to write for the ASOS.com Blog We Say, You Say feature, just email us on blog@asos.com - include your name, age, occupation and location and we'll email you back.

Star Style latest - Who's Viewing Who at New York Fashion Week

Having kicked off on Wednesday, New York Fashion Week is now in full Mischa_at_miss_sixtyswing, with a veritable bevy of stars flocking to sit front row at la crème de la crème of shows. Our favourite outfits from yesterday's shows? We love the verging-on-gothic-look that Mischa Barton worked for the Miss Sixty event, with her newly-brunette hair set against porcelain skin and deep red lips. We developed a serious case of shoe envy too when we clocked that she's Fergie_at_calvin_klein_3managed to bag herself a pair of the gorgeous Burberry Prorsum studded heels - oh how we want a pair - which she wore well with a simple pair of black skinny jeans and an casual rock t-shirt.

On the other side of town, Fergie was in attendance to help Calvin Klein celebrate 25 years of iconic underwear excellence. Echoing Klein's trademark minimalist designs, Fergie wore a simple grey silk dress with a fabulously on-trend stud embellished bib section. Worn with a great pair of patent shoe boots and a black oversized bag, the Black Eyed Pea was every inch the Fashion Week Fashionista.

Trend Alert! New Season Coats

Now that September is here, it's time to turn your attention to the most important decision you'll make this season - choosing your winter coat. Good job there's plenty for you to choose from than, and to help narrow your search we've picked our four favourite coat trends...

Military

Coats_military_2 The classic military-style coat comes around every few seasons, making it a sound style investment - you'll be able to dig out again in a few years time, we promise. But back to this season, military coats were big news on the catwalks, including those of Roberto Cavalli and Aquascutum. The usual neutral shades are timeless, as modelled by Jessica Biel, but don't be afraid of mixing things up with colour - Pucci did them in bright hues of orange and pink.

Jacket

Whilst a full coat will serve you well once winter's chillCoats_jackets_4 sets in, for the autumnal transition from summer to winter it may seem a bit much, which makes the jacket an essential item. Peaches Geldof has already got in on the act, making this sweet Peter Pan collar jacket the focus point of a recent outfit. We're big fans of this bright coral mini-mac, which is versatile enough to wear with jeans for a casual look or over a killer dress to add a jolt of colour for a night out.

Leather

Coats_leather_2Sienna obviously knows that a leather jacket is the quickest way to add some rock chic kudos to your outfit, as she's already onto this trend. No surprise then that her exciting new Twenty8Twelve collection (which she co-designed with sister Savannah) features a great version. Fitting well with the new season's love affair with all things dark and delicious, leather jackets were big news at Just Cavalli, where they were worn with plenty of gloss and edge. And the good news? The older and more battered it gets, the better it'll look...

Voluminous

Big shapes were a massive runway look this season, with volume seen onCoats_voluminous_3 everything from dresses to sleeves to skirts, and investing in a voluminous coat is one of the easiest ways to wear this tricky trend. We love this Bubble Hem Parka from TFNC, which nails the trend but remains casual, making it incredibly wearable. Alternatively, make like Paris and opt for a full skirted mac. Whichever way you choose to wear the trend, emphasise the volume by cinching the waist of your coat with a belt - a great way to add some block colour to the look too.

Star Style Latest - Model Behaviour

Poor Jamelia. We can just imagine how the conversation must have gone when Toni & Guy approached her to front the campaign for their new Model. Me range...

T&G - "Jamelia, darrrling, we'd simply love it if you'd be the face of our new campaign"Toni_guy_erin_helena_and_jamelia_4

J - "Oh, I'd love to! What are the conditions, sweetie?"

T&G - "Well, we'll ensure you have a hair and make-up girl on hand 24/7"

J - "Yes..!?"

T&G - "We'll give you a lifetime supply of Toni & Guy products"

J - "Excellent!"

"T&G - "We'll pay you an obscene amount of money"

J - "Go on!"

T&G - "Oh...and you'll be modelling alongside Erin O'Connor and Helena Christensen."

J - "Oh no! Oh gosh! Oh help! Must detox. Must go to gym. Breathe in. Stand tall. HELP!"

Bless - we don't envy her one bit having to preen and pose alongside two of the world's biggest and best supermodels, but we have to say she does a pretty good job - even if she did resort to 7-inch chunky gold heels just to equal Helena's height (she doesn't even get a look in on Erin), we think she looked great in her black corset dress. The models themselves looked as stunning as we've become accustomed. Helena looked irritatingly fresh-faced, despite having partied until the early hours at the GQ Men of the Year Awards the night before, wearing a simple black dress and leggings with red flats, whilst Erin honed in on two of this season's biggest trends, in a pair of high-waisted jeans and a printed pussy bow blouse. Quite the model line-up.

We've Had a Makeover!

Face of Fashion - Gwen Stefani

What with her gracing the cover of this month's American InStyle and her L.A.M.B range due to show at New York Fashion Week (which kicked off today), our choice for this week's Face of Fashion was pretty much made for us - let's hear it for Gwen Stefani. Her CV practically oozes cool; from her roots as lead singer of '90s ska band No Doubt to fully fledged solo artist to fashion designer (and she's a mum), Gwen really is the girl that has it all. Her style is very much her own; with a love of block colours and bold prints such as checks and stripes, she's equally at home working a street, punk-inspired look as she is in couture gowns. Her inherent theatrical streak results in a host of fantasy-tastic costumes, such as the Alice and Wonderland themed video for What You Waiting For? and the stage outfit below, even spilling over into her red-carpet choices with flowers in her hair or a gaggle of Geisha girls bringing up the rear. Beauty-wise, she's best known for her classic blood-red lipstick and eyeliner flick, but she does natural equally as well, and it's this look we love on her -
