Factory Girl shines in Balenciaga at UK Premiere

After the furore caused by Sienna's outlandish choice of Bridget Jones-style pants for her New York premiere of the Factory Girl, which tells the ill-fated tale of Edie Sedgwick, Andy Warhol's famously mod muse, it was reassuring to see Miller back to her fashion-forward best in an embellished ivory and black  dress.

The vintage Balenciaga frock teamed with the omnipresent black tights and patent heels combination truly set lightbulbs flashing, and her sister Savannah cut an equally sleek silhouette dressed from head to toe in the new Miller label, named after Sienna's date of birth, '2812', and is due to hit stores near you from mid-July.

Tricky Trend; How to carry off 'Volume'

Although the Indie kid's wardrobe staple, the skinny jean, hasn't made quite the retreat anticipated as yet, the backlash against figure-hugging, restrictive silhouettes has well and truly begun.

All hail the 'volume' trend, which has been seen gracing every catwalk and self-respecting fashion-house out there. And with whisperings of its continuation well into next Winter, it's a trend well worth investing in. The smooth introduction of cute A-line capes and billowing shirts, to curve-accentuating tulip and puffball skirts has resulted in the high-street overflowing with outfits perfect for constructing that voluminous outline we so desire. But it's a tricky trend; too much volume and you'll be channeling a look reminiscent of a bag lady, but too little and you'll appear as though you just simply couldn't find clothes to fit you.

At ASOS.com, we recommend following your Mother's golden rule of accentuating either your top half, or bottom half, but never both. Take your cue from Victoria Beckham (shown below) and team full skirts, with sleek tops whilst hi-lighting your waist with a statement belt, or keep your look casual with a romantic blouson and masculinely-tailored trousers.

Paris Fashion Week AW07 Round Up

Although Paris Fashion Week AW07 closed on Sunday to mixed reviews and murmurings of uninspiring and uncommonly commercial collections, the usual suspects in the form of the Olsen twins, Scarlett Johansson and Mrs Beckham were lining the catwalks to ensure that the paparazzi were out in force and capturing every glamorous catwalk moment.

Hi-lights included Balenciaga’s modern showcase of folk-inspired pieces championing abstract directional prints and layered chic, offering a perfect seasonal update on Spring’s tunic tops and chiffon scarves. A fresh palette of bright tones ensured opaque tights remained at the core of each outfit, and stacked heels continued to accentuate high hemlines and feminine styling. Skinny trousers with a sporty feel prevented lightweight fabrics from appearing too unstructured.

Marc Jacobs at the Louis Vuitton show added a much needed touch of romanticism to proceedings, drawing influences from the paintings of 17th century Dutch artist Johannes Vermeer, who was recently bought to our attentions in the 2003 movie adaptation of ‘Girl with a Pearl Earring’. Scarlett Johansson, leading lady of the box office smash, looked on as models strutted down the catwalk in smocks, berets, A-line coats and a tonal blue dresses.

And of course, Viktor and Rolf refused to fade into the background, stealing headlines for their conceptual and theatrical runway show more so than their collection. Each model stepped out rigged up to lighting fixtures, employed not only for their shock value but also as a method of displaying the voluminous skirts of bold, shadow print dresses already being previewed in the coming Summer months.

The Oscars; Award Winning Red Carpet Entrances

On Sunday night, the stars were out in force at the 79th Annual Academy Awards. Top news stories included Martin Scorsese's  long-awaited triumph (after being nominated a staggering six times without victory) in both the Best Picture and Best Director categories for his dark crime thriller 'The Departed' and Helen Mirren's continuuing success in flying the British flag for her stunning portrayal of The Queen, which earned her the title of Best Actress.

However, the flashbulbs were truly sent into a frenzy just outside the Kodak Theatre in downtown Los Angeles, where every movie-screen siren worth their couture was to be seen putting their best fashion-foot forward as they sauntered up the red carpet. And colour was certainly the order of the day with only a handful of black dresses making an appearance.

Newly single Cameron Diaz and Reese Witherspoon showed their exes exactly what they were missing in stunning, floor-length and figure-hugging creations. Diaz channelled an Art Deco feel with an off-white, off-shoulder gown by Valentino and everyone's favourite Legally Blonde starlet attracted many an admiring glance in a rich purple strapless design by Olivier Theyskins for Nina Ricci. Emily Blunt certainly deserved an award for best red carpet newcomer, exuding effortless chic in a sequinned blue column dress by Francisco Costa for Calvin Klein, accessorising it beautifully with a simple clutch bag and a smitten Michael Buble. Rachel Weisz showed her approval of the ubiquitous metallic trend in a platinum gown with jewelled bustline by Vera Wang.
